LD-12 Candidate Freshta Taeb Speaks Against Loss of Veterans Programs Amid Federal Shutdown
Freshta Taeb, a candidate for the New Jersey General Assembly in Legislative District 12 (LD12), is speaking out against the suspension of critical Veterans Affairs (VA) programs resulting from the ongoing federal government shutdown. These programs play an essential role in helping veterans access benefits and successfully reintegrate into civilian life.
Among the impacted initiatives are career counseling services that help veterans transition into the workforce following their service. Additionally, programs such as the VA GI Bill Helpline, which provides vital information on education benefits for former servicemembers, have been suspended as a direct result of the shutdown.
As the shutdown continues, its effects have become increasingly far-reaching. While essential Veterans Affairs operations remain active, many support programs are facing disruption, putting additional strain on veterans and their families.
Taeb, who has previously worked alongside U.S. servicemembers, emphasized the importance of sustaining these programs for the many veterans living in New Jersey. She highlighted the critical role these services play in upholding the promises made by the U.S. military and ensuring that veterans receive the resources and opportunities they have earned.
Taeb was quoted as saying:
“Our veterans have already paid the highest price for our freedoms. The least we can do is honor our commitment to them. Suspending these vital programs during a shutdown is not just a policy failure; it’s a moral one. We owe it to every servicemember and their family to ensure that their access to support, education, and opportunity is never held hostage to political gridlock. In New Jersey, we stand by our veterans not just in words, but in action.”
