LD-12 Candidate Freshta Taeb Condemns Lawmakers' Neglect as Families Struggle with Rising Grocery Costs

Freshta Taeb, a candidate for Assembly in New Jersey’s Legislative District 12 (LD-12), is condemning the lack of response from the officials in office on the skyrocketing cost of groceries as she voices her plan to restore affordability if she wins in November.

Prices are out of control for many reasons, including supply chain issues, rising energy costs, and US foreign policy. Beef is one of the main items surging in price right now, primarily due to increased production costs. This has left working-class families struggling to get their kitchen staples. More than half of respondents in a poll this year said the cost of groceries was a “major source” of stress for them. 

Taeb recognizes that the current LD-12 legislators are not taking issues like affordability seriously. Instead, they have been focused on trying to pass legislation that combats organized retail theft. The people of LD-12 are feeling the brunt of their officials’ inaction. 

Her plan aligns with one of the cornerstones of her platform: Make New Jersey Affordable Again. Unlike the current incumbents, whose inaction has allowed costs to spiral, Taeb says she's ready to take concrete steps to actually tackle affordability. 

When asked why this issue is such a central part of her policy initiatives, Taeb explained her bottom line: 

“It is shameful that under the watch of our elected leaders, families in LD-12 have been forced to choose between feeding their children and keeping the lights on. The cost of food should never rise higher than our community’s ability to care for one another. Families should never have to decide between a bag of groceries or paying rent. Affordable food is not a privilege, it is a basic dignity we all deserve, and I will not stand by while that dignity is denied to our people. We deserve better.”

Taeb is urging voters to keep affordability and the cost of living in the front of their mind as they head to the polls this General Election. She emphasizes that her campaign is driven by real solutions to everyday struggles and policies designed to make living affordable again for families across LD-12.
